KUALA LUMPUR: Zulmazran Zulkiffli finally ended his title drought when he came out tops to claim the Thailand Open men's open crown on Saturday.

The veteran bowler, who last won the National Championships in 2014, saw off 2014 champion and national teammate Rafiq Ismail 242-161 in the stepladder to pocket 300,000 bhat (approximately RM38,000) in prize money.

Rafiq, meanwhile, settled for 150,000 bhat (approximately RM19,000).

In the women's event, Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi failed to make it a clean sweep for Malaysia, when she came in second after losing 223-198 to Singapore's New Hui Fen.

"I struggled a little during the qualifying, but am happy to (have done well) in the tournament proper.

"I'll take this runner-up position, as it's one of my best results in a while," said Syaidatul, who pocketed 50,000 bhat (approximately RM6,500).
