KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s MMA fighters could soon be fighting in the land of the samurai.

This is the script after Tokyo has been included in the One Championship programme for next year.

The MMA professional franchise has scheduled to hold its first fight event in Tokyo on March 31, 2019.

With one MMA event going to Japan, this will see Kuala Lumpur hosting two One Championship instead of three.

The One Championship franchise has confirmed that 24 MMA events will be held in a packed roster from June 28 to Dec 6, 2019.

Malaysian fighters can expect to be named in the cards overseas.

In the past eight months, three Malaysians have earned their names on fight cards outside of Kuala Lumpur with Audreylaura Boniface featuring in the season opener at Kings of Courage in Jakarta on Jan 20 where she lost to Indonesia’s

Title contender Ev Ting’s showdown against Canadian Ariel ‘’Tarzan’’ Sexton in Myanmar on Feb 23 saw the Malaysian winning on split decision.

Ev went on to beat Japan’s Koji Ando in Macau on June 23.

Malaysia’s Hisyam Samsudin also got his shot in the cage where he unfortunately lost to Indonesia’s Sunoto Peringkat in Thailand on March 24.

With nine fights to go until the end of 2018 season, Ev has been named once more for a showdown against former One Lightweight champion Shinya Aoki of Japan at Bangkok’s One: Kingdom of Heroes on Oct 6.

The winner of the Ev-Aoki fight will move on to challenge for the One Lightweight World title in Japan in March 2019.

The MMA franchise will head to Shanghai on Sept 8 for the next fight where Malaysia’s featherweight Muhammad Aiman Raziz Affindi will go up against China’s Chen Lei.
