SHAH ALAM: Despite the 2-0 win over Myanmar in Thursday’s Under-22 friendly at Shah Alam Stadium, national youth coach Ong Kim Swee said his team are still a “work in progress” ahead of next week’s AFC Under-23 qualifiers in Bangkok.
“We won the match and it is a huge boost, but we need to improve on our pattern of play. We did not play the way we had planned in training,” said Kim Swee after the match.
“It was difficult after the break due to the heavy rain. We had to make tactical changes to fit the muddy pitch.
“However, the boys showed total commitment despite being tired from playing non-stop football with their respective M-League clubs.”
On whether he has decided on his 23-member squad for the qualifiers, Kim Swee said he will make a decision before the team board the flight to Bangkok on Monday.
“There are some players who have yet to report for centralised training. I am still waiting for them. I hope they will do so soon.
“However, the squad I have today has given me good options for the qualifiers,” Kim Swee added.
