PETALING JAYA: The Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association (REHDA) is targeting RM1 billion sales of around 100,000 units at the Affordable Housing Carnival — Malaysia Property Expo (MAPEX), next month.

The carnival will be held from Aug 11 to Aug 13, 2017 at the Shah Alam Convention Centre, Selangor.

MAPEX committee chairman and REHDA patron Datuk Ng Seing Liong expects more than 100,000 visitors and potential housebuyers to attend the upcoming three-day affordable housing carnival.

At a media briefing today, Ng said the carnival will be the first collaboration with the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government.

“REHDA is honoured to collaborate with the government to organise this carnival to encourage more affordable home ownership," Ng said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, as well of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar will grace the carnival on August 12, 2017, at Shah Alam, Selangor.

This carnival will gather feedback on the public’s needs for affordable housing, which is expected to be tabled for review in conjunction with government’s upcoming 2018 Budget to be tabled in Parliament on October 27, 2017.

“The carnival is a platform for us to assess the current situation of housing needs. The aim of the carnival is to be a one-stop centre for purchasers to find affordable housing,” said Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government deputy director general Jayasena K. Navaratnam.

REHDA anticipates more than 60 developers, government agencies and banks to take part in the carnival.

Among the developers who have confirmed their participation are Glomac Bhd, IJM Land Bhd, MKH Bhd, UEM Sunrise Bhd, Mitraland Group, Matrix Concepts Holding Bhd and several agencies under the National Housing Department.

Visitors can look forward to cash rebates of up to RM30,000 when they sign on their property purchase at the carnival. There are bumiputera discounts offered on selected properties.
