JOHOR BARU: The Johor Umno Liaison Committee has yet to discuss the issue of candidates for the posts of president and deputy president for the upcoming party election.
Johor Umno secretary Datuk Md Jais Sarday, in a brief WhatsApp message, said to date, the state liaison committee had yet to have any discussion on the matter.
He was asked whether Johor Umno would nominate its own candidates for the two posts or would prefer the posts to remain uncontested.
The post of the party president fell vacant following the resignation of Datuk Seri Najib Razak after the defeat of Barisan Nasional in the 14th General Election. He also resigned as the BN chairman.
The duties of the president is currently being carried out by Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi while Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein is carrying out the duties of the party’s deputy president.
