LAHAD DATU: A foreigner’s attempt to smuggle out 340 packs of cooking oil to the Philippines failed when he was caught in the act by members of the Armed Forces in waters off Kampung Sungai Bilis, Tanjung Labian here, yesterday.

The 46-year-old Filipino was piloting a boat laden with the subsidised items when he was discovered and arrested at 2.30am.

Lieutenant Colonel Salmi Istikh Ahmad, who leads the 11th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (11 RAMD), said his team made the seizure during an operation in the area.
