KUALA LUMPUR: After claiming to be molested by a religious preacher from Iraq with links to a top Malaysian VIP, a 21-year-old from Penang has retracted her police report on the incident.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh confirmed that an application for a retraction had been made by the woman but stressed that the police was still investigating the incident in the report published by theSun yesterday.
"The complainant wants to retract the report but we will conclude our investigations and submit our findings to the Attorney-General Chambers to seek further advise on the matter. The case is for outraging modesty under Section 354 of the Penal Code" he told the newspaper.
Amar also confirmed that the man had a previous criminal record but did not divulge details.
The newspaper reported his records were for trespass, molestation, domestic violence and gang-robbery.

Amar said the police would decide on whether it would move to seek a revocation of the residency status after examining the findings of the investigation.
The woman had initially claimed that the foreigner had lured her to Kuala Lumpur with promises of sheltering her at a religious school.
When she arrived on July 24, ten days after communicating with the man in his mid 40s, he took her to a house believed to be in Kepong.
He then hugged her and made other advances prompting her to flee into a room and locking herself for hours before sneaking out and fleeing home to Penang.
The man who had been freed on bail on Tuesday, following a four day remand holds a permanent resident status.
The self-styled preacher reportedly used Facebook as well as his status, religious appearance, and promise of religious talks to lure women before taking advantage of them through religious healing or blessing ceremonies.
Photos of the man posing with top Umno, PKR and PAS politicians at banquets and events also accompanied the video.
