PORT KLANG: As of Dec last year, 5,943 PDA (Petroleum Development Act) licenses were issued to businesses that market or distribute petroleum or petrochemical products.
Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, said licenses were issued to businesses that complied with the Petroleum Development Act 1974.
“Out of the total PDA licenses issued, 3,425 were given to retailers, while 2,518 were provided to commercial companies,” said Hamzah during his opening speech at Pandamaran Synergy Petroleum (PSP) Sdn Bhd here, yesterday.
He said the National Key Economic Area of the oil, gas and energy sector is targeted to increase the National Gross Income (GNI) to RM131.4 billion and create 52,300 job opportunities in 2020.
“The ministry (wants to) boost domestic businesses to become (the driver of) an industry that is competitive, progressive and sustainable,” he said.
Hamzah thanked PSP’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) sponsorship, amounting to RM200,000, for the Food Flotilla For Myanmar, a campaign launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“Businesses are encouraged to emulate PSP’s generosity in the context of CSR, be it on the national or international level,” he said.
